Alexander Amann is an interdisciplinary young professional with a strong interest in sustainable development, governance, and European affairs. His academic and practical experiences span international relations, policy-oriented research, and engagement with societal issues.
He has gained experience in both research and journalism. At the Institute for Real Estate, Construction and Housing (IIBW) in Vienna, he contributes to projects addressing sustainable development, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and socio-environmental governance. In parallel, Alexander works as a freelance journalist for the European News Agency, where he covers social and cultural topics. This role has strengthened his analytical and communication skills and allows him to remain actively involved in public discourse.
As part of his international background, Alexander has participated in exchange programmes in France, Denmark, Australia, and the United Kingdom, experiences that have enriched his intercultural competence.
He served as a Junior Ambassador of the European Union, promoting European values, citizenship, and cross-border cooperation among young people. In addition, he collaborated with the University of Jordan on projects related to the Water–Energy–Environment–Food (WEEF) Nexus governance framework, funded by German development agencies such as GIZ, focusing on sustainability and policy integration in the MENA region.
During his Austrian Service Abroad assignment in Nepal, Alexander has been engaged with Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH), a national NGO working to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. His work includes supporting communication strategies, contributing to knowledge-sharing activities, and assisting in organizational development. This experience has deepened his understanding of development cooperation, grassroots governance, and the intersection of environmental sustainability and public health in the Global South.
Alexander has also developed an interest in digital policy, particularly in the governance of emerging technologies and the ethical dimensions of digital transformation. He has explored topics such as data protection, digital inclusion, and the societal implications of AI and platform governance, aligning his policy interests with broader debates on democracy and digital rights in Europe.
Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, Alexander is deeply engaged in music and the arts. He received several years of vocal training, performed as a singer at the Vienna State Opera, and participated in choirs and competitions, earning second place at “Prima La Musica.” In addition, he has played the piano for over a decade, cultivating a strong foundation in classical music. He also pursues creative hobbies such as drone piloting and photography.
Fluent in German, Russian, and English, and proficient in French and Latin, Alexander brings a cosmopolitan and interdisciplinary perspective to his work. His education at the Akademisches Gymnasium Vienna and the Vienna Boys’ Choir elementary school has provided him with a strong general and cultural foundation.
